PSHS Alumni Association Board Resolution
We, the members of the Board of Directors of the PSHS Alumni Association, after having been sworn into law, do hereby depose and say:
Whereas, we have recently learned of the PSHS Board of Trustees (BOT) decision regarding the status of three 4th year students of Class 2008;
Whereas, after a careful and thorough review of the evidence, supporting documents, testimonies and circumstances surrounding this incident; we believe that all accommodations were accorded the students during the schoolyear 2007-2008 to help them improve their performance in Math 5 as ascertained by concerned faculty members;
Whereas, the students failed miserably in their efforts and still got a failing mark in this subject;
Whereas, we support the recommendation of the 4th year Scholarship Committee to a uphold the final grade of 5.0 in Math 5 for the concerned students;
Whereas, as a direct consequence of such a grade, these students were recommended for nongraduation consistent with Item II, Section D under Dismissal of the PSHS Main Campus Student Handbook 2006-2007 edition;
Whereas, a BOT-prescribed summer remedial program and/or exam after the 4th quarter is a major change in the school rules that cannot be applied for this school year because it is yet to be drafted, reviewed and approved and hence may not be applied retroactively;
Whereas, the decision allowing these failed students to graduate, if they pass such remedial examination, with a PSHS diploma is a direct affront to the high standards and ideals that the PSHS education stands for;
Wherefore, be it hereby resolved that, we strongly urge the BOT to immediately revoke their decision of a “summer program that will give failing students a chance to make up for their grades in Math 5, which IF THEY PASS will allow them to get a PSHS diploma” and adhere strictly to the school policy.
